Every so often, I fall for it. I am on ancestry.com (or another genealogy website), and I find an interesting family tree or a message on a message board. The author speaks in an authoritative manner and seems to know what he/she is talking about. And so I ask them a question about the source of their information (so I too can look at it) and the response is always "I don't know". All too often now, surfing the web and taking other people's work without attribution is mistaken for research, and it seems to be the norm now. How disappointing.
