Two, unrelated surname questions: 1. I have a friend with the surname of Bak/cal. Her family had a rumor they were Sephardic, but did not have records. We did research on the surname and it does come up; we also found an old Sephardic siddur published by Bak/cal Publishing, which we can find no information about. Anyone who can provide information about the publishing house (based in J'lem), or her surname more broadly (location of the community, etc.), would be appreciated. 2. My family ceases to have records in the U.S past my great-grandmother, who is listed on my grandmother's birth certificate. We cannot find my great-grandmother's (who was a child at the point of immigration) or great-great-grandparents's immigration records. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be the case and how to overcome it?
