My 6th great-grandfather who died in 1698 in Spanish Town, Jamaica, left a will written in Portuguese. Many years later, the will was transcribed by the British colonial government and typed. The typed version that has survived, has transcription errors.Would a researcher in 17th century Portuguese language be able to review the transcribed document, and suggest corrections to the transcription errors? Would it be possible to infer from the language used anything about the background of my ancestor and the part of Portugal where the he was educated?
