Secret synagogues are popping up all over the place in Portugal, but this one takes the biscuit. The 'proof' that this one is a synagogue is that it doesn't have the marks of a mezuza, there is a stoup for holy water and crucifix (yes this is apparently proof), the house looks like ... a house, and the cupboard is *not* on the eastern wall - so these do occur in other houses also. But nevertheless someone said it was a synagogue and that is good enough for the local council.
