This Group has been helpful in assisting in my search for the origin of my 7th Grandfather, Moses Athias da Silveira, a Portuguese merchant who traveled to Jamaica before 1684 and died there in 1698. He wrote his Will in Portuguese. I would like to start a parallel search for the origins of other new immigrant relatives and close associates in the belief that I might find documents linking them to Moses Athias da Silveira.Abraham Cohen DeLeon, my 8th Grandfather and father-in-law to Moses Athias da Silveira, wrote his Will in Spanish and his epitaph was written in Spanish and Hebrew. Does the use of Spanish suggest research in locations other than Hamburg and Amsterdam?Dr Jacob Rodrigues DeLeon was my 7th Grandfather’s physician. His Will was written in Spanish and his epitaph in Spanish and Hebrew. Can any members of the Group suggest how I might research where Dr. DeLeon studied medicine? It is apparent from the Wills that i have researched that the two DeLeon families were close but the Rodrigues DeLeons and Cohen DeLeons may not be related.Other names on the Wills read like a "whos-who" in 17th century Hamburg, but I have not been able to find records pointing to travel from Hamburg to Jamaica. Here are names taken from witnesses to early family Wills: Daniel Abouh Cardoso, Jacob Lopez Forres, Jacob Alvares, Daniel Laguna, Daniel Lopez Laguna, Ishac Telles, Ishaque Masias.
