The Hamburg Portuguese community had already been in decline for a while, yet in the first half of the 20th century there were still quite a number of families represented. Just a few of them are found among the names of Holocaust victims. Especially Cassuto, Sealtiel, Abendana Belmonte, De Castro, Luria, Curiel, Delmonte, Jessurun. And even of those, thankfully not large numbers. (God forbid, I'm not trying to belittle the tragedy)Did the members of the Rocamora, Barzilai, Brandon, Piza, Meldola, Souza, Edrehi, etc. families all move away before the Nazi regime? Did they spread all over the world, or was there a move to specific places? There was a plan to move the community to Surinam, but it doesn't seem to have succeeded.
