A question about Sephardic naming patterns or conventions. I have seen two expositions for this:1.The first son is named after his paternal grandfatherThe second son is named after his maternal grandfatherThe third son is named after his paternal great-grandfatherThe fourth son is named after his maternal great-grandfatherDaughters are similarly named after their grandmothers and great grandmothers.Where the custom obliges both parent and child to take the name of the same ancestor, they will share the same name. It is quite common for a son to be given the same name as his father (or daughter as her mother).A Posthumous son is named after his father or daughter after her mother. The younger children are sometimes named after their other uncles and aunts.2. Firstborn son named after the paternal grandfather Second male child after the maternal grandfatherFirst daughter named after the paternal grandmotherSecond female child after the maternal grandmotherNext child after the paternal uncle or auntNext after maternal uncle/aunt, etc. They are similar, except the first one seems to insert great-grandparents before uncles and aunts. Is there a definitive convention?
