https://youtu.be/wbqr4Cq8zsA**Adon Olam - Todot El Melody | Amsterdam**The music relating to home ceremonies has been much better preserved in the Dutch and North American Spanish and Portuguese communities than it has in London. Despite the fact that many of the London tunes to be sung in the home were meticulously notated by De Sola and Aguilar in the mid-nineteenth century, the actual practice of singing them died out, certainly, by the mid 20th century if not well before. One of the archetypal and most beloved *zemirot* sung at Shabbat tables in both New York and Amsterdam is the *piyyut* ***Todot El***. In Amsterdam this bright - without being frivolous - melody is also happily put to work as a setting for ***Adon Olam***, as indeed it is in one of the southern-most European outposts of the Spanish and Portuguese ecosystem - Bordeaux. To my knowledge this cross-fertilisation has not yet occurred in New York, but as I know from personal experience, the music committee on W70th street does not like to rush its deliberations. Please share.
