https://youtu.be/JfiLTuN45Cg# Hosha’ana - R. Sa’adiah Gaon | New YorkThere is a difference of opinion among the Geonim regarding when in the order of service the Hosha'anot should be read on Sukkot. R. Amram rules that they should be recited following Musaf, whereas R. Sa'adiah is of the opinion that they should be read after the Hallel. While the Spanish and Portuguese tradition is in accordance with R. Amram's position, R. Sa'adiah's poetic compositions nevertheless constitute an integral part of its Hosha'anot formulation. In addition to his 'Lema'anakh' introduction to the Hosha'anot, R. Sa'adiah wrote piyyutim specific to each day, with the content reflecting the ordinal number of the day of the festival in question. In the case of the second day, of which an extract is presented here, there are fifteen scriptural references or allusions to the number two. The dualities cited include Adam and Eve, Jacob and Esau, Moses and Aaron and the two tablets of the law.The melody to which the piyyut is sung is unique to this set of poems and is largely unknown outside the Spanish and Portuguese diaspora. The present recording is based on the variant sung in Congregation Shearith Israel, New York.תזכו לשנים רבות
