https://youtu.be/F-EOkNA5h8s# Ashamnu | LondonThe Ashamnu formula first appears in the 8th century Seder Tefilot of R. Amram Gaon. In addition to being recited in many Sephardi communities whenever Tachanun is said, it is a central feature of the liturgy on the Day of Atonement. The present recording is of the London variant as sung on Yom Kippur. Characteristically, the musical treatment - while serious and heartfelt - is absent of any histrionics. As with much of the Spanish and Portuguese High Holiday repertoire, this melody is an example of a western-influenced tonal evolution of a Levantine modal chant. Please like and share.
