This Bento Dias would be the cousin of Branca Dias Coronel, according to book of the Denunciations of the Visitations of the Holy Office to Brazil (1591-1595), and possibly also the cousin of her husband, Diogo Fernandes, the first New Christian to settle in Brazil, in 1542, according to historian José Antônio Gonsalves de Mello. Bento Dias was Diogo Fernandes' partner at Engenho Camaragibe, a sugar producer in Pernambuco, Brazil, and later returned to Lisbon, where he left descendants.
