Hello, I have just been trying to find a death certificate in the GRO records for my 3xggrandfather and grandmother, who both died in tragic circumstances within days of each other in London circ. September 1853. There is an advertisement that I believe was in Jewish Chronicle as their children, one of them being my gggrandmother went into the Bevis Marks orphanage, which was run by their uncle and aunt ( their uncle was their deceased fathers brother). As I cannot find Abraham and Rachel Belascos death records in the GRO records, I am hoping to locate them in the Bevis Marks Death record archives, but I have been unable to order a copy of the Vol 6.via the website.I am thinking that possibly at this time, ie. in 1853, Jewish deaths may have still just been recorded by the Bevis Marks synagogue registrar ? And not always reported in the Government registrations at this time? Maybe someone could advise me on this? Also at this time another of their deceased father's brothers was a beadle at the Synagogue... I'm just trying to work out where the death records are recorded.. I've heard that they may have died in a fire? or during a cholera outbreak.. I'm inclined to think it may have been a fire, as all the children survived apart from a baby brother Phineas, who was abt 10 months old. I'd really like to try to find out what happened if possible... Any advice or suggestions would be very appreciated?
