Hello everyone. I read about these 18th century passport records for the Port of Bordeaux and thought I would pass the links. There is quite a bit of interesting information available for Sephardic Jews (or soon-to-be Jews). Sorry for the length of this post!Jews and Portuguese travelers needed an application signed by a syndic of the Portuguese Nation in order to board a ship. Historian Evelyne Oliel-Grausz identified over 1100 Jews (mostly Portuguese) out of the 33,000 passengers. In the early years the passengers from Portugal were certified as Catholics. Later years often have the signatures for the syndic and the passenger. I notice quite a few signatures in Hebrew.
