The provenance of this distinctive and haunting melody, reserved exclusively for the rendering of Tanachic verses during the penitential period is difficult to establish. Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to identify anything that might qualify as a cognate in any other Sephardi or Mizrachi tradition. Please like and share, and if you haven’t already, please subscribe to my YouTube channel.
