https://youtu.be/aecaI05BY48# Ben Adam - New YorkThis Piyyut, of unknown authorship, is sung in many Sephardi communities as an introduction to Selichot throughout the month of Elul and during the penitential days leading up to Yom Kippur. It consists of two stanzas each concluding with: Lekha Hashem Hatsedaka Velanu Boshet Hapanim (Daniel 9:7)While the Piyyut forms part of the order of service in both Amsterdam and New York, it is absent from the London rite. The present recording is of the melody sung in congregation Shearith Israel in New York which, in contrast to most other settings, is entirely non metrical. This recording is dedicated to the memory of my dear friend and colleague Rabbi Israel Elia ZT’L who passed away on 23 Ab 5784.May his memory be a blessing.
