https://youtu.be/pUZD9HXDKho# Tsur Mishelo Akhalnu | New YorkTsur Mishelo Akhalnu is sung as a Shabbat table song across pretty much the entire Jewish world. This despite the fact that it contains no direct reference to Shabbat, As I pointed out when I posted an Amsterdam melody for this Piyyut, the themes it expresses closely parallel the content and structure of the Birkat Hamazon. So much so, that there are authorities (R. Chaim of Vlozhin, perhaps being the best known) who actually forbid singing it for fear of rendering the Birkat Hamazon a Berakha Lebatalah! The melody in the present recording, sung in the New York Spanish and Portuguese community, was probably brought to America from Gibraltar by James Mesod Wahnon who served as Hazzan in Congregation Shearith Israel from 1921 to 1941. In Gibraltar this melody is used as a setting for a number of liturgical selections including En Kelohenu and Hashkibenu. This video is one of 10 on my Shabbat Zemirot playlist which you can find here.https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvd3h2QBHjxSrwJGhtphliDbcKQ7dMMEB
