https://youtu.be/PLSriumjEmc# Yitgadal - Arbit Shalosh Regalim | London The London Spanish and Portuguese Sephardi community maintains a distinctive collection of settings for the Kaddish recited before Barechu on Shabbatot and Mo'adim. The origins of many of these melodies remain obscure, and a number of them appear to have no known parallels elsewhere in the Western Sephardi diaspora. The present recording, beginning with the closing verse of Psalm 107, features a delightful lyrical melody documented in the Gomes de Mesquita–Hadida compilation (1957), where it is identified as being associated with Pesach. However, my teacher, Hazzan Eliezer Abinun (z’l), employed this setting more broadly, using it in Arbit on any of the Shalosh Regalim, with the notable exception of the first nights. This variation in practice highlights the fluidity of melodic assignments within an aural tradition and raises interesting questions regarding how specific melodies and motifs are passed down. Please like and share.
