Hi everyone! I’m one of the newer group members, and after over a year of trying to build out the Sephardic side of my tree and learning more about where my family came from, and this week I am actually in Salonica for the 1st time :)I only have 1 week here and managed to get a spot on Hella Matalon’s private Jewish Heritage tour, but I was wondering if anyone in the group here has been to Salonica and found some hidden gems! (Sorry in advance if you see this same post in other groups - I'm really hoping I can find some more leads before my trip!)It’s been so tough to find historic places to check out that are from before the 1917 fire, but I’m hoping that being there in person might get me closer to finally finding at least 1 local record on my great grandparents. Also, on the off chance that anyone here recognizes someone from my tree, here are the family members (all born in Salonica) that I’m hoping to find a grave or record for!- **Great grandfather Lazar Sion** (father Morris, mother Stella Catarillis/Catarivas) born around 1880- first wife was Anna Allaluf, with whom he had 2 children with in Salonica:- Morris born July 23 1907- Phillip / Rafael born Nov 18, 1909-** Great grandmother Reyna/Regina Capon / Kapon** (father Nahama/Nathan, mother Grazia/Grace Grottas) born around 1885.- Before marrying Lazar in NYC, she was married to Joseph Nadjari, who died before she immigrated, and with whom she had 1 child while in Salonica:- a daughter Lucy on Mar 23 1912Thanks SO much, all!!
