THE PORTUGUESE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION 2026: A COUSIN OF ARTUR BARROS BASTO IS TAKING PART In a recent post I mentioned how the Portuguese newspaper Observador has partnered with the Portuguese Genealogical Association to do genealogical studies on the 8 main candidates to the Portuguese presidential election which will take place in early 2026, and how candidate Catarina Martins is a distant relative of outgoing President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa through shared Sephardic ancestry. Another study has now been published, on candidate Jorge Pinto, showing that he is related to the famous campaigner for Judaism in the early 20th century, Artur Barros Basto. Please note that, despite his claims, Barros Basto has no proven Sephardic ancestry as far as I know.
