The violence was terrible. In three days around three thousand people died. They entered their homes and dragged them into the streets. They were tortured, dismembered and burned. It is estimated that more than three thousand people died."All it took was a trigger for ancient myths against the Jews to generate a catastrophe. The bonfires were as tall as houses, in a city full of torn bodies and where heads were carried on the tip of spears", describes Gabriel Senderowicz, president of the Comunidade Israelita do Porto (CIP), which decided to mark the date with the release of a documentary film remembering the event: "1506 - The Lisbon Genocide", directed by Luís Ismael and produced by LightBox.The film will be available online and free of charge at 11:59 pm on April 18, 2024, on the CIP YouTube channel in five languages: Portuguese, Hebrew, English, French and Castilian.In addition, previews with debates are planned in Tel Aviv (Israel) and Miami (USA), on Wednesday, and in Porto on Thursday (at the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, at 9:00 pm). Other screenings with debate are scheduled for Lisbon (May 2, Cinema City do Campo Pequeno, at 6:30 pm), Madrid, London, Paris, New York, Hamburg, Sydney.
