When I started to work with reviving the almost lost art of Judaic paper cutting I cut my piece’s from a single piece of paper. Even at a very start I brought my own vision into this ancient art.Traditional papercuts were symmetrical.Created by folding the paper and probably cut using scissors (“The War of Paper and Scissors “ from 16 hundreds is the earliest mention of paper cutting as Jewish art form) papercuts decorated important documents like ketubot.Still do 😊My papercuts were and are cut with an exacto knife. I use silkscreened paper that could not be creased. My artwork (any, come to think of it) is never symmetrical. I love movement! My earlier work and most of the pieces I created before my move to Florida and before Covid were cut from a single sheet of paper. As they grew in size I became less and less reliant on the drawings.I still use my drawings and sketches often for parts like human figures but for the nost part the papercuts I created are made freehand.Because of my move and complications during covid lockdowns I wasn’t able to access my materials. So I started collaging my papercuts using small papercuts cut from the scraps of my silkscreen paper. This is how Rainbow Trees came into being.I am not sure if it was just the lack of materials or the need for color and something happy, something hopeful (probably both) that changed my approach to papercut art.And last year I started to create papercut collages in earnest.I have done it occasionally in years past but this last year it became the majority of the work I do.Artistic stiles change…This beautiful Fiddler on the Roof was one of the first pieces and after October 7th practically everything I create is a collage. This piece is sold but you can see other artworks in this style by scrolling down my page and of course you can purchase an artwork on www.Etsy.com/shop/KronickArtStudio Take a look.#WomenInArt #JewishLivesMatter #amisraelchai #jewishlife #fiddlerontheroof #jewishtradition #jewishculture #jewishcommunity #judaicaart
