New from A Nação Hebraica: The Births Index of the Jewish Community of Livorno (1668-1810).We are pleased to announce the publication of a complete transcription of the "Repertorio di Nascita 1668-1810" of the Comunità Ebraica di Livorno. Also available are .pdf and .csv versions for ease of reference. Special thanks go to our native Portuguese language editor, Oscar.The Index appears to have been compiled in the early nineteenth century from the original birth register. It is organised alphabetically by family name and, within that by year, in the format "Family Name - Child's Name - Father's Name - Register reference". For example, Under "E" in the year 1668, we find the first entry: "Enriques Francia Raquel de David, a 1", where "Enriques [Henriques] Francia" is the family name, "Raquel" is the name of the child born to the father "David", and "a 1" is the folio number of the corresponding entry in the Birth Register here: http://80.240.130.172/archliv/sfoglia_imm.php?tit=&ann=&voce=&id=&volume=132S&gruppo=Nascite&op=esp&offset=11. The latter has a little more information, revealing that the mother's name is Sarah. Cross-referencing in this way from the Index presents genealogists and historians with an invaluable tool. Please note, however, that the Births Register only covers the period 1668-1740, a later volume presumably having been lost.
