The entari (robe, dress) is a traditional Ottoman clothing fastened at the waist using folded shawls or belt buckles.This fine entari from Rhodes features a vertical striped silk brocade. It belonged to Amelia BarDavid Levy, who wore a similar entari for Purim in 1918.
Before the war, the Jewish Community of Rhodes maintained a thriving business district at the main business square called “Piazza del Fuoco" (in Italian) or “Tcharshi Kemado” (in Turkish/Ladino). Today, it is known as Ippokratous Square.

Moshe Surmani chronicled his 1943 journey from Rhodes to Israel. His diary was kept at the Yakeer school in Kfar Haroe. At the beginning of the War of Independence, Moshe enlisted in the Palmach and died defending the Etzion Bloc.
