On display at Torre de Tombo, Lisbon, Portugal from March 20 - April 29!
Thoroughly enjoying this book. Has anyone done research in the French colonies? More specifically, looking for archives of ministere de la marine(colonies-Martinique), 1683, Paris. Is it on-line? Unfortunately, I did not have any luck through family search.😞. I found Pinheiro there sometime between 1620-1685!😃 Many thanks!
Anyone want to go to beautiful Portugal in June?

Hi all,I believe that this document is a letter of attorney concerning a ship by the name of Madonna de la Neve going from Livorno to London in 1697. There are many Sephardic signatures and it mentions David Pinheiro de Mesquita, but I am attempting to fully understand the document. Are these all owners? Can we assume that all were in Amsterdam? Looking forward to your input.
Is anyone familiar with this book? Do you find it to be reliable? Thoughts?
Keith M Atkinson This is what you were speaking of!
Hi All,Has anyone read this book? It is fascinating! " King Manuel of Portugal in 1501 leased land in Brazil to a group of New Christians, who have pledged themselves to send out six ships every year and to explore three hundred leagues farther each year." Is anyone studying this? Who was in this group? How can I learn more? Many thanks!

I am sure that Keith Keith M Atkinson will not mind me sharing this with the group!
Hi all,On my recent trip to Portugal, I met some fascinating historians, archeologists and others who provided valuable input regarding the Sephardic experience in Portugal pre-inquisition.Have any of you read this book? It is in Portuguese and it is available in the Guarda museum. In it, it has letters of contracts provided by Kings of Portugal and others to Jews. It has their names pre-inquis...
Good evening all, I am looking for tips on how to read deteriorating tombstones. Thanks to Laura Arnold Leibman, I will use flour. Does anyone else have any other tips? Much appreciated!
Just wanted to share this book with the group. It is in Portuguese, has items from Curaçao and all over Europe. I just came across a Belinfante authored book as part of the collection. Many thanks!
Hi all,Based on your collective knowledge, has anyone noticed a trend of the changing of a name from the Catholic name to Abraham when they are the first generation that leave Iberia? Could that be a clue of when they left if we find an Abraham in Amsterdam, London, etc.? How about for a woman? Has anyone seen a trend? Many thanks.
Hi All, This site has an extensive listing and photographs of graves. Hope this helps locate some ancestors.
By this time next week I will be in beautiful Curaçao in attempts to find my Pinheiro roots. René David Levy Maduro this is what I have been able to research via the Mormon church:- birth and death registration1722-1831- burial duties 1785-1789If the Maduro archives have additional information, I would like to understand how to go about doing this in Curaçao. Thank you in advance for your guida...
Good Morning All,Could you help me confirm that this is Elias son of JACOB LOPES DA FONSECA. whose birth was registered on 14 November 1744. Has anyone done the genealogy on Lopes da Fonseca in the Caribbean? I attempted to put a rectangle around the first item in question. Many thanks!
Good Morning All,While conducting my research for Pinheiro in Curaçao, I found this marriage information for families Casseres, Espinoza, Touro among others. Hope someone can use it!
Good Morning All,I have exhausted my research for Curaçao through the archives that the Mormon church possesses. I have a few comments/questions. Do you think that Jacob Lopes da Fonseca and Mosen Lopes da Fonseca are brothers and Elias and Simha are cousins getting married? Abraham Pinheiro de Nogueiro married Sara Lopes da Fonseca on December 22 1788 and I am wondering if Sara and Elias are s...
"The Jewish Community of Early Colonial Nevis" by Michelle M. Terrell depicts the Isaac and Ester Pinheiro family among others! I believe that is where the information came that Isaac was born in Madrid in 1636 and his father Abraham was from Amsterdam. I am trying to reach out to her. Does anyone know her and could provide an introduction? So now in addition to Alexander Hamilton from Nevis w...
