We have been approached by a young man from England who is looking to find out more information on his Greek-Jewish roots. What he knows is scarce so we are reaching out to our vast family of friends. The little that we know is that Simon (Simantov) Bakola (Bacola) arrived in England in 1910 as a young child (listed as born in 1910 in Ioannina although we cannot find him in the Ioannina archives)....

On Sunday, May 15th, the historic Monastirioton Synagogue in Thessaloniki was re-dedicated. The synagogue had been built by Jews from Monasitir who had come to Thessaloniki and the end of the 19h and beginning of the 20th century. The Aroeste family was instrumental in its creation. It opened for services in 1926 and became the only synagogue in Thessaloniki to survive WWII since the Red Cross too...
