Just to state: I'm an outsider on this page and wishing to remain so, but allow me to ask: why so many of the comments here are about bashing Ashkenazi traditions? Is it possible to show reverence for Sefardi traditions without attacking the other side? Specially when our Ashkenani brothers' traditions are also based on Halacha and tradition.

After the great succes of my previous post, now something serious. What is the custom among S&P about shakeing hand to women? Let me tell you my experience: in Italy I always saw rabbis shaking hands to women, and of course it wasn´t even an issue. Of course during my first years in the "Yeshive" I´ve been taught that was strictly forbidden. Then with maturity I started t think...The Halakhá about...
Just to break a little too much Gravidade: According to the ancient Minhag what is the football team that a Portuguese jew must be affiliatet with? (not too much Gravidade please...)
Thank God for the WSDebate forum! If all the heated -and sometimes not-so-civil- debates can be held there, this group can stay wonderfull as it has been lately! :)http://www.facebook.com/groups/219308094782211/
I was reading this book over Sabba. She brings some interesting data, but the very beginning of her analysis is so wrong, that I feel like putting the book down. It is evident that the writer is completely clueless about Judaism and Jewish identity (especially the Sephardic variant)First she keeps asking a question that looks like a joke to me, she wonders why they decided to establish a Jewish co...

I think some of you might enjoy this tribute to the Western Sephardic Tradition in NY http://goo.gl/Q73xZ Pesah Sameah!
Anybody read this? All historians I have seen describe Pharar, describe him from a typical Ashkenazi perspective. Something needs to be done about that, as he was very important in preserving the authentic Sephardic tradition in the early Amsterdam community. He deserves a lot more credit than he gets.
Dear Fellows, I don´t know if this is already th eright place, but since I am not really a great fan of folklore, why don´t we discuss Western Sephardic Halakhá? If this is not the right place, so why dont´we open a WS Halakha forum? Considering the high number of discussions and answers here, I am sure that it would be the same with Halakhá!
My big mouth ...I think the Lubavichers are going to send a hit man on me..They finally came to Nicaragua and had a Seder, some of my students attended, I send them a warning about the whole Yehi..Adonenu...! Well the mesianics from 777 are upset. :)

Forwarded to me by Joshua De Sola Mendes. A lot of the content at the Primo Levi Center deals with the Portuguese Jews of Livorno.
About the Minhag in the "Synagogue Portugaise" in Antwerp it was the same of Amsterdam.
This is the "Synagogue Portugaise" at Hovenierstraat in Antwerp. The Portuguese new-christians started to establish in Antwerp in the Sixteenth century. Famous Jews among them like Dona Beatriz de Luna ( Gracia Nasi) and her rich relatives, the famous phisician João Rodrigues de Castelo Branco known in Europe as Amato Lusitano or Amatus Lusitanus. Hundreds of portuguese and spanish Jews lived in th...

Looking for info on the history of the Portuguese Community of Antwerp. I have books on the Conversos there in the 16th century, but nothing of the established community.
