Two years ago I wrote about a controversy which occurred in 1827 in the London S&P between Haham Meldola and Hazzan Almosnino. They debated about instances of 'sheva na' and 'sheva nah.' This past week I found a list of 'sheva na' in the London archives submitted by Rev Meldola to the Mahamad through the gabay M Montefiore in the year 1827! Is anyone in our group from Montreal? I’m wondering if someone could look up something for me from the Rev Abraham de Sola collection at McGill? I don’t expect more than 30 minutes of time. Please pm me. Thank you!

I came across this 1859 letter about the Minhag while doing research at the Katz Center for Judaic Studies at Penn. It was sent from David ? of London to Rev Sabato Morais of Philadelphia. Do these practices still square up with what is done today across the S&P?

In New York's C Shearith Israel 70 kolot are sounded (30 + 30 during musaf repetition + 10 before titkabal). In London another 30 are sounded at the conclusion of the Kaddish. According to KST it was the custom of the Eastern Sephardim (kabbalists?) to sounds 100 kolot because of Em Sisra (He is silent about Western Sephardim). They added their 30 though during the silent Musaf. I suspect CSI is t...

Hi Everyone, I'm researching several mid-19th century families and am wondering if anyone already has family trees of them. Mendes Belisario, Aguilar, Lindo (London and Jamaica). I've found mistakes in the literature concerning some of these people, though it is clear that there are marriage connections between these families. I'm therefore trying to piece together their family trees beyond a rand...
