I have been trying to determine whether the LDS films of Sephardi in Amsterdam are available online. I couldn't find them anywhere. I wrote to them. All the films, apparently, are listed as 'Index to Ketuboth' regardless of what they actually are. And the ones that I want are only viewable at the FHL library, of which there isn't one here.

Thanks to Ton Tilien, Jarrett Ross and others for the digging and the info. Now have more places to search through. Funny thing is it was only about 8/10 weeks ago that I decided to do my fathers family genealogy (bored at work) and I discovered that my fathers family were Jewish descent. Opened up so much. Have found a lot of info a lot good and some surprising and some sad and shocking - death c...

May I just thank all the lovely people who took time out from their day to research/post on my Calo thread? You have given me so much new information, and I am deeply grateful. If anyone can point me in the direction of some clues about Caleb de Abraham Calo (known as Philip) you might just help to solve a family mystery! Thanks again :)

Some of you may be interested in this recent post I wrote about the Yitzchak Abendana Latin translation of the Mishnah. I found it curious that both brothers were working on Mishnah translations simultaneously - Kabod Ribbi Yaakob Abendana in London was working on a Spanish translation, while his brother Yitzchak up in Oxford was working on a Latin translation for Cambridge university. I rather s...

Hello all! I've been researching my mother's Dutch Sephardi family, and can get back to the mid 1700s in Amsterdam, but have drawn a blank on specific individuals before then. They were the Calo/Callo family. I've found the name in Italy, prior to them being in the Netherlands, but can't tie the loose ends together. Apparently they owned - or donated a large sum for the purchase of - the land on w...

Here is a list of Jews in Barcelona who converted in 1391. It is alphabetized by NEW surname. If you have the Marco i Dachs' book "Catalunya y los judios" (1985), the list can also be found in Apendice 4. This is the list as given to me by my good friend and excellent researcher Maria Jose Surribas. There are three pages.

Another Vlog from Jarrett Ross, this time with our own Michael Waas. About the possibilities YDNA provides for genealogical research, and about it's impossibilities. Also check out Michaels astonishing story about his own .family history. Everyone in the family presumed it was Ashkenazic, but DNA-research led him to an unsuspected journey in a completely different direction

The archives of the Portuguese Jewish Community of Surinam have been digitized and are available online for free. I thought these alphabetically arranged lists of birth of (male) persons which stretches from 1662-1723 and 1723-1777 would be of interest to many researchers. It was made in 1843, to replace the original which was handed over to civil authorities. As always with Portuguese indices, ...
