Best wishes for the holidays and New Year to you all from son Raphael, Juliette Rossant, and me!
Hello!Happy New Year!I wonder if someone can please help me interpret this document found by Jarrett Ross. It is a testimonial of descent for a Torino sephardic Jew called Judah Salamon Melhado b.1720 in Torino (Turin) and died in 1771 in Amsterdam. I have transcribed it as best as I could however there is some calligraphy I cannot understand. I also did a google translate which appears quite conf...

There is a dutch Ashkenazzi family by the name of De Marcas. Even though it seems to "sound Sephardic" I have not come across it among the Portuguese. Does anyone know what the origin is?
In 1955, D.A. Jessurun Cardozo of Amsterdam was rabbi of a Sephardic congregation in New Jersey. Does anyone know which congregation this was and whether it was S&P?

I have just read this on the Oporto Jewish Website, its reffering to claims for Citizenship by Brazilian citizens!!!! I honestly dont know what to think...Be patient and read it.The requests from Brazilian citizens claiming to be descendants of people condemned by the Inquisition for heresies concerning Judaism cannot be automatically admitted. Usually, they are not Jews, nor have at least one Sep...

I wrote down a relatively "de-ornamented" version of the berakhot for Hanukká as read by Chazzan Simon van David Duque (1897-1945) today for the purpose of teaching my children. In case anyone else finds it useful, I'm posting it here. I'll post a closer transcription (with more ornaments) in a comment to this post. B'ngezrat Hashem, I'm going to have the good fortune to be in London (visiting family) for the upcoming Shabbat Zachor and Purim (probably at Lauderdale Road for Shabbat and Bevis Marks for Purim). What're the dress conventions in London these days? (Should I pack my top hat? Tails? :)
Hi All,Happy Chanukah, and thank you for accepting my request to join.I am investigating a branch of my mother’s family tree.
