Gentleman this is what l and most of mankind understand the word 'Ladino' to mean, meanings change quiet possibly we should be more specific as below but just as we call all non Ashkenaz Sephardi lets call it Ladino A Quick Explanation of Ladino (Judeo-Spanish)by Shelomo Alfassa 12/1999Ladino, otherwise known as Judeo-Spanish, is the spoken and written Hispanic language of Jews of Spanish origin. ...
I have written about this day and will be speaking about it next week. It demonstrates how fear, anger and prejudice can lead people to commit murder on innocent souls. Stop for a moment and think about those who perished at Rossio Square. It looks the same today as it did in 1506. Where does the evil come from?

Has anyone researched or perhaps know of a study which attempts to put numbers to our people leaving Portugalpost 1500.thank you
Interesting record from TT:
A bit of Sunday morning trivia that arose from my investigations of the "Pre-Nassau" sinagogue here in Itamaracá, Brazil. It's the description in the key of a map of the village from the period. c.1640. As it is just a few words I spent a couple of hours trying to decipher it ! ..... Orthography of 400 years ago was "flexible", so I've developed a technique using Google Translate and a proc...
Thank you for accepting me. I am researching my late husband’s Sephardic roots. His mother was of Sephardi descent – family name Treves. I have managed to research and trace most of the Dutch ancestors and now would like to address the Venice connection. One of mother–in-law’s stories was a banking connection in Venice around 16th and 17th century. Research has produced the Treves Bank in Ven...
Our family (Arkin) oral tradition has consistently stated for four generations that we lived in Spain before the expulsion, then moved to Turkey and sometime in the early eighteenth century migrated to Lunna or Grodno Poland. I can trace the family back to 1785 in Grodno, but can't find the way to connect them to ancestors in Turkey or Spain. Any suggestions?Michael ArkinCorrales, New Mexico

Here you will find a short impression about the book " Mendes Benveniste: Uma família sefardita nos alvores da Modernidade", "coordenado por Susana Bastos Mateus e Carla Vieira" and an interview with Jonathan Israel about the Sephardic Diaspora The interview does not have great depth, but it is nice anyway.

George Maduro, warhero and namegiver to Madurodam in The Hague, honoured by a biography and a monument.
A giant has gone. I wish we could see the world through his eyes. I bet he could see no evil from his heights.
Look at who showed up in the Times of Israel today. Congrats Aron Sterk for arousing such interest!

Could anyone help here? I am asking for a friend, where stories in the family claim that they came from conversos. She wishes to find people further back from these two or information about them that could shed a light on this question : Gerrit Adriaenszon van Geelmuyden ,1632-1701, born in Genemuiden, Zwartewaterland, Overijssel, The Netherlands - and his father Adrian van Geelmuyden, born ca. 160...

MIGUEL DE ESPINOZA We all know what Baruch de Spinoza looked like. Or we think we know because there is still no agreement that all the portraits that purport to show him, really are Spinoza. But what did his father look like? Thanks to a declaration by Joao de Aguila, processed by the Inquisition in 1650, we know, partially.Miguel Espinosa christão-novo mercador natural desta cidade [Lisboa] o qu...
