Montreal's S&P is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year. Many activities are planned during the year including an event with a shabbaton with clergy members of the sister S&P congregations. For those that may be able to attend it would be a pleasure to see you here!
Any recommendations on articles or books regarding commercial, cultural or other types of ties between diaspora sephardic communities? For example the Amsterdam, London and Caribbean ties, or other similar ties with different regions in the Mediterranean or Asia. What is the origin of the custom of saying in a hushed tome the portion of the Shema "weh'ara af amonai..." and is there a specific WS custom to this?I was told by my hazanut teacher from Bordeaux that this porion is actually read out louder than the rest. So two totally different traditions.
