I know this has been discussed extensively before, but to my great surprise I found an interesting quotation in the English translation by Eitz Echad Publishing (www.eitzechad.com) of the *Kitzur Shulchan Arukh: Shulchan Tahor *of Rabbi Joseph Pardo:Section 3: Laws relating to Tefillin3. On Rosh Chodesh [New Moon] the *tefillin* are taken off before the Musaf [Additional] Service, and **on the Int...
https://giftshop.wizo.nl/Webwinkel-Product-862890537/Tefilot-(P.I.G.).htmlI found that this book is still sold in the previous link. I don't think they sell the weekday Koren Spanish & Portuguese prayer book. Just in case I sent them an email asking but no answer yet.
Would you recommend the book "Ages of Man: A Guide to Traditional Jewish Practice and Belief"of Rabbi Abraham Levy and Lucien Gubbay? Does it have any particular S&P interest? Thank you in advance for your answers.
https://press.princeton.edu/books/hardcover/9780691183572/dissident-rabbiMaybe this book is of interest to the members of this group. Did anyone read the book? If you read it please share your opinions below. Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Apart from the* Koren Talmud Torah Amsterdam Shabat* prayers book, do you know of any Western Sephardic Tradition **Hebrew only **prayer book? If not yet, are there any coming soon that you know of? Thank you all in advance for all your answers. Even if I still have a long way to learn Hebrew but the bilingual books get me mad for day to day use. They are double the pages to flip over...
In the book **מנחת שלמה** **MINḤATH SHELOMO** by Haham Dr. Solomon Gaon **ז״ל** (published in 1990) on page 188 commenting on SELIḤOTH says the following:"*The present custom of the Spanish and Portuguese Congregation in New York City is to hold *Seliḥot* services in the evening **only**, except on the eves of Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur, when *seliḥoth* are read in the early morning hour.*"On a ...
Due to the unfortunate lack of a better book I had to use a *Kinot Abotenu* of the Moroccan custom for Tisha b'Av. I like very much the tunes of the Morrocan tefilot in general but with all due respect for all traditions this book was the most tragic thing ever. It had a lot of kabbalistic strange additions that I didn't like. How can I buy a S&P *reza* book for the fasts including Tisha b'Av? Whi...
I saw somewhere on the web that there is a new online program to learn basic S&P Chazzanut. I've lost the link and wonder if anyone on this group would be so kind as to share any information you may have about that. I'm very interested in learning how to read the perashah and the haftarah according to the S&P custom. What are the options? Anything online?
What is your opinion about the use of electricity in Iom Tov? Any S&P sages opinions? What do your Rabbis hold by?
According to the David de Sola Pool daily book of prayers on Page 73, where the Tehinnot start, it says in Hebrew that some communities say one thing and others differently. I know this siddur includes a mixture of the Western and Eastern Sephardic nusachim. What is the exact Western S&P communities practice for Tehinnot? Thanks.
Since I bought my first talit I always use the 10-5-6-5 knots. But I just realized (didn't know it wasn't the S&P way before) that one of the strings is longer than the others and would like to trim them if it is hallachically correct to do so. Can I do it? How? Do I have to say "leshem kedushat tsitsit" or something similar?
What is the exact way Western Sephardic Jews do the hand tefillin? Is it the same as the Oriental Sepharadim?
Thanks for all the answers of my previous question about S&P Sukkkot. One more: What are the foods or drinks that need to be eaten in the Sukkah with the beracha for the Sukkah? Hamotzí? Mezonot? Hagefen? The rest?
What are the S&P halachot for Sukkot? What and what doesn't have to be eaten or drunk in the Sukkah? The beracha "leshev baSukkah", is it said before or after the beracha for "hamotzi"? Do you have to stand to say it? How do exactly is the "lulav" shaken? When in the prayers? Do people "dance" with the Torah or is against the proper decorum expected in a S&P synagogue? Do we eat in the Sukkah in S...
What are the S & P perspectives about kaparot spinning chicken around the head before Rosh HaShanah? Is it a Western Sephardic practice?
What are the S & P perspectives about tashlich? Is it a common practice among the Western Sephardim?
Nicole Garcia this are the evening selichot from the S & P Sidur from London.
I would like to know all the details and tunes of the S&P Selichot. When are they said in the daily prayers? What is the actual text? Any audio samples? Please if you can share all the details, halachot, videos, etc... you may have. I have S&P Sidurim but they hardly explain the procedures. Thanks.
What is the custom in the S & P tradition in terms of the time one has to wait between eating "hard cheese" and meat? Half an hour? One hour? Six hours?
How many days does one have to wait according the the S & P tradition after the new moon to do the blessing?
The S & P Siddur from London doesn't include the Shalom Alechem and Aishet Chayil songs at the Shabbat dinner table. I always felt that there was something wrong with the first song and I am very surprised that maybe I am not the only one who thinks tahat. Is this the "standard" S & P practice? Any variations? When did these songs started to be used in other traditions? Any comments? Thanks for th...
There is a morning beracha that always gave me the feeling of being perplexed. It is the "shelo asani goy" one. I understand the rational behind the three berachot to give thanks for the male Jewish identity. Fine to me. But the word "goy" doesn't make any sense to me since it means literally "people". What is the wording in the Talmud? Do you know the history behind? Are there any alternatives? I...
The Western Sephardic rite seems to include only the first paragraph of the Shemah in the prayers before going to bed. I thought the Shemah were always three paragraphs. Why is that? Can you explain the halachah behind please? Why other rites have the three paragraphs and even vidui? Thanks.
I have just come across this video and I am disgusted by the declaration at the end of the video promoting Messianic Jews for Jesus staff from the Esnoga in Amsterdam. What is this? Can anybody from Holland tell the community there to avoid this in the future please?
How can I buy the S & P Siddur from Amsterdam (Ricardo, B. Israel - Ebeden der Portugees-Israelieten - Hebrew-Dutch - Amsterdam)?Anydoby knows where can I buy the "Home Ceremonies" book from Dayan Toledano?
