“Madraçal” is a relatively archaic Portuguese word used to refer to Islamic schools. Is there any written historical evidence the same term has been applied to our medrasim by lusophone Jews?

Visited the Jewish museum of São Paulo last week and found some items that might interest the members of this group. Given how ashkenormative the majority of their expositions was (like the very uncontextualised one about the inquisition), I was quite surprised when I encountered the following items.

Bought a very interesting book on my last trip. Sermons from a Ḥacham of the Amsterdam community published circa 1710. I couldn’t find any additional information on him, so no idea if he actually was a “Ḥacham” in the narrow sense of the S&P use of the word. Nevertheless, I’m sure the hispanohablantes around here will enjoy it.
