Do we have any scans of reza books printed (ideally) and/or known to have been used by K'K Zur Israel in Recife? I'm looking specially for cabalat shabat/friday ngarbit.

“Madraçal” is a relatively archaic Portuguese word used to refer to Islamic schools. Is there any written historical evidence the same term has been applied to our medrasim by lusophone Jews?

“ Still, it had some well-known Ḥachamim, for example Jacob de Abraham Basan, who wrote an order of prayers (still extant) for a fast-day held after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake,[citation needed]”Can someone help me find a source backing that up? From the following article:

I’m looking for recommendations of Pentateuchal commentaries. Ideally, I’d like them to be made by our Ḥachamim (I’ve already got in mind R. Cassuto’s and R. Leeser’s works). Nevertheless, I’m also open to any other book written by a Sephardi scholars, and even Ashquenazi ones who break the mould. My only musts are that:- it should be in English (Portuguese is also acceptable, obviously. Maybe Spa...

Not S&P per se, but they did use the De Sola Pool reza book for decades.

Does anyone has resources (in English, with the exception of R. Cohen’s site, which I’m already aware) describing in more detail the rationale/sources on the Cadish cal/col debate? I know the general idea is that Aramaic doesn’t differentiate its camats, but what’s the exact origin of that? I’m trying to start a conversation with a local ḥazan (he’s Lebanese and says “kol”) on the topic and proper...

What’s the S&P tradition/thought on:1. Waving the lulab during certain parts of the halel (if such is a custom of the Nação, which verses and directions?) 2. Ushpizin (could’ve the Sabbateans done it in the past?)

Can someone give me historical examples of Jewish organisations created (i.e ab initio) under a name that included references to the Portuguese rite, but in reality never had a single S&P member or properly used their liturgy? Like the modern Sephardim of Antwerp, for instance.

What is the proper S&P way to bless the Tora as a subinte when dealing with a tic? As we had a community that used this kind of scroll case (Hamburg), I’m sure this question can (could?) be objectively answered…I know the KTS touched on the matter, but I believe it doesn’t mention Hamburg and only talks about eastern Sephardim’s relation with the tic.In this situation (which happens to me quite a ...

Visited the Jewish museum of São Paulo last week and found some items that might interest the members of this group. Given how ashkenormative the majority of their expositions was (like the very uncontextualised one about the inquisition), I was quite surprised when I encountered the following items.

I’m aware that lamb is deeply appreciated by our eastern brethren during the week of pesaḥ. However, is there any tradition western sephardic lamb recipe for pascua? I’d appreciate if you could share some that do (or can be adapted to) not contain quitniot or wet matsa, as there are people in my household who won’t eat these. Obviously lamb recipes from any other corner of the sephardic world will...

Bought a very interesting book on my last trip. Sermons from a Ḥacham of the Amsterdam community published circa 1710. I couldn’t find any additional information on him, so no idea if he actually was a “Ḥacham” in the narrow sense of the S&P use of the word. Nevertheless, I’m sure the hispanohablantes around here will enjoy it.
