I came across this 1658 Bayonne notary deed that I thought might be of interest to some. I believe that most of the Melhados that I have seen discussed here seem to have a North African origin. This deed deals with Antonio Lopes de Castro, who was an active merchant from St. Esprit. I noted that he is also called "dit (similar to aka I believe) Milladou" in the text and "Meilgado" in the summar...
I have attached two Surinamese Ketubot for Moses Jessurun (I believe they both deal with the same groom). The first is for a marriage to Sarah Gabay Isidro and the second is to Sarah de David (or Jacob) de Robles. Would someone be able to take a look to see if there is any additional genealogically relevant information available, particularly the name of the groom’s father? Thanks. The links a...
Over the past few years I have noticed posts regarding Abraham Zacuto Lusitano. I don't think I have seen any notarial deeds for him posted. I thought I would post this brief one from 1636 (Baddell, Not.), since it may be of interest to several members. I have no idea what it says, but it appears that he signed the deed.https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/5075/44.1.7/start/220/limit/1...
Good afternoon everyone. I don’t think these two ketubot have been posted before (by me or anyone else), but if I am incorrect, my apologies. The first is for Gabriel Serano and the second is for Abraham Serano. The links are below. I was wondering whether there was any genealogically useful information in the documents, though I suspect there are no marriage contracts. Thanks!Gabrielhttps://...
This is a 1679 ketubah for Salomao de Abraham Touro. Could someone let me know if there is a notary mentioned? Thanks! https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/334/5.2.6.3.1.1/start/110/limit/10/highlight/3
This is a 1680 ketubah for Salomao de ELIAO Touro. Could someone let me know if there is a notary mentioned? Thanks as always! https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/334/5.2.6.3.1.1/start/110/limit/10/highlight/4
I hope this 1757 Surinamese Ketubah has not been posted here before. Could someone take a look to see if there is any helpful information here, particularly the name of the husband's father? The link is below. Thanks very much.https://www.nationaalarchief.nl/onderzoeken/archief/1.05.11.18/invnr/409/file/NL-HaNA_1.05.11.18_409_0246
I have attached a fairly messy Surinamese 1750? ketubot for David de Robles and Ribca Gabay Isidro. I was hoping someone might be able to confirm that David is the son of Jacob de Robles and whether there is any other useful genealogical info here, such as a notary (though I believe the notary file for this year is missing). Thanks!https://www.nationaalarchief.nl/onderzoeken/archief/1.05.11.18/i...
I have attached an image from a 1644 “Confession book” from Amsterdam. The attached page is from the middle of a series of entries relating to the possibly nefarious activities of Elias/Eliezer Sacuto and others (Gracia Sacuto, Moses Atthias and others). Although probably interesting itself, I am focusing on (and asking for help with) a Samuel Fernandes mentioned in the middle right side of imag...
If this subject has been discussed, I apologize. I was wondering about the ancestry of the famous Hazan Isaac Touro of Newport (and father of the equally famous philanthropist Judah Touro). Stanley Mirvis, in his terrific new book on 18th Century Jamaican Jews, states that Isaac was was the son of Port Royal merchant Moses Touro (pg 8); on the other hand, Malcolm Stern in his First American Jewi...
Hello. I have attached a 2-page 1758 petition filed in the Surinamese PJC community on behalf of Bienvenida, widow of Semuel Cohen Delmonte. I was hoping someone could take a look at it to see if there is any genealogically relevant information (though it may just be a plea for financial support). Bienvenida was likely the daughter of Isaac Nunes de Almeida and Rica Henriques Pimentel (the sist...
Hello everyone. Could someone tell me whether this 1705 ketubah mentions a notary? Thanks very much.https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/334/5.2.6.3.1.6/start/120/limit/10/highlight/5
Hello everyone. I was hoping that someone might be able to assist with this 1750 ketubah from Suriname (image and link follow). According to the Suriname PJC index for the ketubot, the couple is Jahacob Touro and Rachel de Jacob de Robles. There is no identification of Jahacob’s father. According to the couple’s marriage declaration (image and link follow), Jahacob was born in Amsterdam and Ra...
I thought I would post this 1646 Will (I think) for Abraham Musafia alias Dr. Christovao Nunes by itself, rather than adding it to the few threads related to the Musaf(phia) families that have been added to over the last several months. The Will is very clearly written and appears to be informative. As a bonus, Menasseh ben Israel, who is mentioned in the text, is a witness. My apologies if it ...
For quite some time I have been trying to figure out how Samuel Touro, his children (Moses, Lea, Sarah and Jacob) and grandson Samuel de Jacob --who married a Nunes de Almeida--fit into the larger 17th/early 18th century Touro family. I found and previously posted several mid-to late-17th century Dotar petitions that suggest Samuel or his wife was a child of Moses Touro, alias Gabriel Fernandes V...
I don't think this nice little family tree of Gabriel de Medina has been posted before. It was part of a 1757 Dotar petition.https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/334/7.1.2.3.14/start/80/limit/10/highlight/5
Is this the 1669 Will of famed convert/doctor/literati Dr. Isaac de Rocamora (who married into the Touro family). I doubt it is his last Will, but I thought it might be of interest. Apologies if it has been posted here before. https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/5075/126.1.21/start/810/limit/10/highlight/5
I could have sworn that I saw a recent post about some of these people mentioned in this 1659 marriage contract (H. Friesma), but now I cannot seem to find the post. I may simply be incorrect, but I thought I would post the link just in case. I think the groom is Aaron Dias and the bride is Beatris de Casseres alias Abigail de Casseres. Other signatories include: David Diaz (father of the groom...
Hello everyone. I was hoping someone could take a look at these two ketubot and let me know whether the bride's father was alive and whether there is a notary mentioned. These are the links to the documents too. Thanks as always!https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/334/5.2.6.3.1.3/start/50/limit/10/highlight/6https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/334/5.2.6.3.1.2/start/10/limit/1...
Hello everyone. I have attached an excerpt from a table for contents for the year 5518 ketubot (I think). Would someone be able to take a look for Moses de Daniel Oheb Brandao and Ester de Abraham de Paz on this list and let me know the page number for their ketubah? I didn't see his signed ketubah, so he may have signed in Hebrew. Thanks!
Last night I was searching for something on the Amsterdam City Archives site and came across two inventories that looked interesting . I don't think I have seen them here so, I thought I would pass them on. My apologies if they have been discussed before.First is Inventory 5059, Inventaris van de Collectie Stadsarchief Amsterdam: handschriften. https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/details/505...
I don't think this updated link has been posted yet: Will of HH Jacob Sasportas, Notary P. Padthuijsen, 7 Mar 1698. https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/5075/126.1.75/start/290/limit/10/highlight/6
This is another Will from a leader of the 17th Century Amsterdam PJC. I thought it would be of interest. The 1687 Will is for Isaac Orobio de Castro ("Don Isaque alias Balthasar de Orobio Medico"), Not. P. Padthuijsen. He identifies his wife as Ester de Orobio alias Isabel Perez de la Peña. Thanks to Noa Ramos for transcribing it! https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/5075/126.1.38/start/...
Last night I came across the 1697 Will of Moseh Curiel, alias Jeronimo Nunes da Costa, a leading member of the Amsterdam PJC and important diplomat. The Will can be found in the Notarial collection of P. Padthuijsen. I thought some might find this interesting if it hasn't been posted before. https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/5075/126.1.73/start/500/limit/10/highlight/6
I hope this ketubah has not been posted before (Jacob Nunes de Almeida 5455), but if it has my apologies. I was hoping someone could tell me whether there is a notary here.https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/334/5.2.6.3.1.4/start/0/limit/10/highlight/10
